More Success for NET

9th March, 2006

Nottingham Express Transit has just announced its results for its second full year of operation and it's more good news.

Over 9.7 million journeys were made, an increase of 15.5% on the first year's total, far more than was predicted. Other highlights were the increased use of the Wilkinson Street Park & Ride site, as more commuters discover that taking the tram into the city centre is far better than driving, and the success of the Trent Barton bus link to Hucknall tram terminus.

There were also very encouraging results in the recent customer satisfaction survey. A whopping 94% expressed satisfaction with the service provided, a figure that most commercial organisations would be delighted with. Encouragingly, the dissatisfaction of the remaining 6% was mainly down to overcrowding — they wanted more services. 80% of passengers confirmed they wanted more lines, 17% were not concerned either way, and tiny minority (only 3 %) said they did not want more routes.

A NET spokesman on BBC Radio Nottingham hinted that NET may have to look at acquiring more trams.

Remember all those critics who said the service would be a white elephant and nobody would use it? Wonder where they are now. Actually, we suspect many of them use the tram regularly but are a bit too embarrassed to say so.
