NET's Reply |
| October
22nd |
|
In case you missed NET's
response in Neighbourhood News last week, you can read it
online here.
UPDATE: NET have pointed out that a slightly larger
version of the article is on their website. It contains a
couple of extra paragraphs on noise and costs. |

Neighbourhood News |
| October
17th |
|
This weeks Neighbourhood News
(available for 25p from all good newsagents) carries a
response from NET
to the three articles by BACIT, BCBRA
and BCT. Interestingly, NET are apparently considering three
more stops. You can read last week's articles. BACIT's is here.
BCBRA article, full the half-truths we have come to except
from them, is here.
BCT's is here,
but beware, its just blatant scare-mongering with occasional
incredibly stupid statement such describing a 20% drop in
traffic as 'small'. |

BCT - Losing the Plot? |
| October
17th |
|
BCT has never been the most rational of the anti-tram
groups but of late its claims are boarding on the surreal.
BACIT members have heard, direct from the leading lights of
BCT the following 'facts'
"BACIT is run entirely by Dr Nick Palmer MP and Dave
Smith (a Labour party employee)"
They must be very busy people, updating the website,
organising trips to Croydon, writing letters to the local
press, printing and delivering leaflets....
"There is French plot behind the
tram..."
Apparently a French firm has the contract for the bus
shelters and there is a French firm involved in NET.
"The Croydon Tram will devastate the lives of hundreds
of senior citizens"
Its odd that about 19% or 4m of Croydon tram journeys are
by the over 65's. Perhaps they enjoy being devastated. |

The Great Debate |
| October
9th |
|
This week's Neighbourhood News (25p from all good
newsagents) has three tram related articles in it. One from
BACIT and one each from BCBRA
and BCT. If you think that the anti's have an unfair
advantage, then don't worry. Next week NET
will have a right-to-reply to all three articles. Which should
be interesting as BCBRA and BCT have produce their normal
bunch of misquotes, half-truths and falsehoods. |

I've finally finished the write up of
BACIT's trip to Croydon. You can find it here.
Apologies for the delay. |

Road Chaos |
| October
4th |
|
On the cover of this week's Topper
is an article about how traders on Station Road only got three
days notice before the road was shut for essential repairs
lasting five weeks. This is sort of bad communication that NET
must avoid when Line Three gets built, especially along
Chilwell Road where the traders are understandably concerned
about the disruption. In the front of NET's new magazine is a
comment from Councillor John Taylor, NET's chairman, where he
comments "One thing we've taken very seriously is keeping
people informed...". I think a lot of people in Beeston
and Chilwell might disagree with that. NET have given no
indication of their plans for minimising disruption during
construction and the local businesses around here are
seriously worried. So come on NET, tell us what your plans
are. People will understand if they are sketchy and
provisional at this early stage but the more people know the
less they will fear the tram. And if you can't tell anything
at the moment, the least you can tell us is when the
information will be available. |

NET Delivers New Booklet |
| October
4th |
|
A new booklet from NET
come through my letter box today and should be delivered to
everyone in the greater Nottingham area. This twenty page
glossy magazine has Autumn 2002 on the cover so hopefully we
can expect to see more in the future. Inside the magazine I
found another leaflet about Line
Three and a leaflet for sex shop.
I bet you can all make up your own rude jokes about trams and
sex but I'm sure this isn't the image NET intends to portray,
especially as the leaflet's map didn't even show where the
nearest tram stop would be. |

New Tram Group Formed |
| October
4th |
|
A new pro-tram group, Yes to the CW Tram, has formed to promote the
Clifton / Wilford tram route and combat the rubbish being put
out by the ENT.
BACIT supports the general concept of better public transport
and a tram system that connects north and south of the river
will benefit everyone but BACIT has no opinion on the
specifics of the route. That is an issue for the local
residents. However BACIT are firmly behind groups that provide
accurate information, combat ignorance and encourage local
democracy. ENT are spreading the standard rubbish about noise,
house prices and safety. This comment sums up the quality of
ENT's debate.
"We were delivering leaflets for Yes to the CW Tram
and noticed a large anti-tram banner attached to the railings
on Wilford Lane. In the interests of democracy we put up two
of our smaller posters - they lasted less than 10 minutes
before being ripped down! "
It seems that where ever you go, the anti-tram lobby are
afraid of the truth and honest debate. |
